Hugo Madera
Hugo Madera is a choral composer, conductor, educator and clinician based in Nebraska, United States. Originally born in Jalisco, Mexico, Hugo aims to provide a new perspective on Latin-American choral music by creating a bridge between the two cultures, implementing musical elements and styles influenced by a diverse choral background. As a clinician, he is an avid advocate for social change and the diversification of the choral canon.
Hugo Madera is the current director of choral ensembles at Adams Central Public Schools in Hastings, Nebraska, where he teaches vocal music and directs the Varsity Chorus, Madrigal, Nine-Ten Chorus, Select Chorus, and a variety of middle school choirs. Hugo serves as seasonal music director at the Minden Opera House, as well as the Minden City Chorale in Minden, Nebraska. In addition, he currently works as the Chancel Choir and JuBELLation Bell Choir director at First United Methodist Church in Hastings, and serves as a member of the board of directors for the Hastings Community Music Academy.
Hugo Madera holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Hastings College, where he studied choral conducting under the direction of Dr. Fritz Mountford, vocal pedagogy under Dr. Hillary Water, and composition under Dr. Marc LaChance and Dr. Kara Baxter. In addition, Hugo Madera is currently a graduate student in Music Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
